I *think* the last time I wrote a real blog post was somewhere near the beginning of the month, with my goals for August. OK, so maybe not goals exactly, but things I needed to get figured out. And now that we are over halfway through August I need to review and see what I’ve managed to do. And since I’m kind of half-assing this whole blog area right now, I’ll write it up in a new post.
Better eating habits. This has gone just so-so. I’ve cut out a LOT of ice cream, but you know what? I’m not really great at will power, so I can’t turn down a soft serve ice cream cone on a 105* day. But I am actually thinking twice before eating a cookie, so that’s something?
Strength training. Um, I’ve done 2 “strength” training workouts via JM 30 Day shred…So that’s something. And apparently I’ve really let me muscles atrophy because both workouts left me in so much pain! Gotta work on that over the next two weeks.
Long run confidence. Check, check and double check! This one I am really happy with, even though I’ve really only had one great long run, but I guess that’s all it takes. Last weekend we set out to do 9, maybe 10 if we were feeling great. I’m not really one to plan a route, so my running buddy and I just meandered our way around and when my watch beeped 9 we decided to be done. When I uploaded my data, I noticed there were HUGE chunks missing, so I put the route into Map My Run. My Garmin had missed an entire mile worth of the run, so we actually did 10. And I felt great the WHOLE time!
Shorts have been procured. I’m not happy that I’m now one of those people who spends $50 on shorts, but after a trip to the Lululemon outlet I am a convert. I wore the Fast Track shorts during my long run and they didn’t move, didn’t chaffe and basically felt amazing. Drawback is that Lulu doesn’t actually sell them in stores or online anymore…So I’m still searching for shorts.
I have a training plan! I am committed to following the Run Less Run Faster method, and I really hope it doesn’t kill me. There is a lot of speed work involved, but I think I can handle it. And thanks to the AMAZNIG Lesley, who helped me refine everything, I am confident my long run schedule is going to work out well.
So that’s that. I’m making progress and it’s a good thing, because August is nearly over!
