2012, The Year I Learned To Love Running

7 Jan

Heya, Peeps!  Long time no chit-cat and bliggity blog.  I have been on FunCation for the last 16 days and I took it very seriously.  There was a lot of quality time with the family, a lot less social media obsessing and absolutely zero blog reading or writing.  I’d like to do a recap post of what The Fam and I were up to over the last couple of weeks, but I’m not really organized enough yet to do that.  We did do quite a few fun things so I think I’ll work on that for tomorrow.  Or Wednesday, I wouldn’t want to over tax myself with posting too often this week.

I want to take this opportunity to officially apologize for the mass amounts of comments all the blogs I follow will be recieving shortly.  I have something like 300 posts I need to catch up on.  Such a first world problem, I know.  I was going to just skip them all, but I don’t want to miss out on the fun things everyone has been up to.  Maybe my comments won’t make a difference to a lot of bloggers, but that’s ok, I still feel the need to get all caught up.

I realize that during this time of the year everyone is rolling out their goals for 2013 and doing a recap of 2012.  So  here’s my quick recap and goals and then we can move on.

2012: The year I learned to love running.  I started Couch to 5K (again) in February. I actually didn’t begin the program on week 1, I think I skipped toward week 4 or 5 because I was just that damn confident in my amazing skills.  Like before I finished the program and was trying to figure out what to do next.  Bam, let’s do a Half Marathon (yes those two words should always be capitalized).  So I did my first ever Half in July in Texas (so smart!).  And then I did two more.  2012 was awesome!  Between February and December I ran 535 miles.  Boom Shaka-Laka!  I had previously run a total of 100 miles, in FOUR years!  So go me.

2013: More of the same.  I actually don’t really have goals for 2013, I don’t make resolutions on New Year’s Day.  And I’m still slightly injured right now, so looking positively into the future isn’t really working so well.  I’ve committed to running a Half with a new runner, and a 10K with another friend new to running.  And I’ll run a relay for the first time.  If I *had* to point and say “this, THIS is what I want to work on” for the upcoming running year, it would be to get stronger so I don’t get injured again and get closer to that sub 2:00 Half Marathon.

As for the non-running side of life, I made some great new friends in the last year, and I hope to make those relationships stronger and happier.  I posted on The Facebook, that if I could only have one wish for New Year’s it would be for my friends and family to be happy and healthy.  Because in reality THAT is all I need.

I’m a little late to the party, but I still want to know, do you make resolutions?  What are your running goals for 2013?

I rarely make running-related resolutions. Last year my resolutions were to get rid of credit card debt (check! if only student loan debt could be erased as easily), be more organized and eat more veggies (both of those are forever works in progress…). I also always resolve to do core and strength workouts regularly, which I only seem to be good at keeping up when I’m injured and can’t do other stuff!

    2013 goal: 3:45-3:50 marathon.

I always say that I’m going to focus on strength work and I never do, I hope this time it’s different for both of us!

I love your goal, and I think it’s very achievable!

I don’t know why, but hearing that it was the year you learned to love running makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Yeay running! I think there is definitely a sub-2:00 in your future. You’ll need the right race (at least, that’s what did it for me), but you will get it.

And can I just high five you for this line, “my friends and family to be happy and healthy. Because in reality THAT is all I need.” YES! Can’t yes it enough! With my brother-in-law’s condition, I realize every single day that I am healthy is a huge gift, and that is what I want for my loved ones as well.*

I wish I could fill everyone with the running warm fuzzies! It is a wonderful thing.

I think far too often we take our health for granted, and I hope to remember every day that it’s something to be grateful for.

I think it’s perfectly okay not to make a specific goal on New Years Day, make it when you realize it’s an important thing you want to accomplish. Getting stronger is always a great goal in my opinion! Happy 2013!

Getting stronger is a good goal, I just have to stick to it!! I’m not good at keeping up with strength training. Hopefully this time I will stay focused!
